The Henna Artist by Alka Joshi (2021 Fiction)

The story of young Lakshmi who escapes an abusive marriage and goes to the city of Jaipur in the1950's newly-independent India. It is rich in colors and textures, weaving insights of caste, class, the Indian diaspora and gender equality to show the human perspective. Every page is a delight.
