(From the August 2014 Circle of Friends Newsletter)

The August book sale is rapidly approaching, August 22—24. Look for details about the sale elsewhere in this newsletter. Looking for a home for your wonderful books that you no longer want taking up valuable space in your home? Now is the time to donate them to the Friends. Please drop them off before August 15th . For large donations (more than two banker’s boxes); contact the office at (510)733-3285 and arrange a time for drop off. Donation guidelines can be found at: http://friendsofcvlibrary.org/index.php/donations/42-guidelines or at the bookstore office. The Friends of the Castro Valley Library have a hard working group of dedicated volunteers who look over each book, sort and clean the books for resale. The week before the sale we need to take the time to ensure that the books for sale are sorted and cleaned, so please, no large donations the week before the sale. Working at the book sale is a good way to start your career as a “Friends of the Library Volunteer.” Sign up at the office now.

The Friends were presented with a $1,045 check from the Castro Valley Sanitary District as a result of their efforts for Earth Day. I want to extend a warm thank you to the CV Sanitary Board: Daniel M. Akagi, President; Dave Sadoff, President Pro Tem; Ralph Johnson, Secretary; Melody Appleton, Secretary Pro Tem; and Timothy McGowan, Board Member. This group selected the Friends of the Castro Valley Library as one of three nonprofit organizations to receive donations from the Earth Day event. Thank you also to all 209 individuals who supported the Friends of the Castro Valley Library by selecting us to benefit from their work in cleaning up Castro Valley. All monies raised by the Friends are used by the Castro Valley Library to improve library services to our local community.

Now is a good time to consider renewing your membership for the new season which begins on October 1, 2014. Encourage your friends and neighbors to become members as well.

The Friends of Castro Valley Library is an important organization for everyone in the community. It is especially important for all of us who are lucky enough to be one of the volunteers. I extend my heartfelt thanks to all of you who make this organization work.

Jane Kraut, President
